Connecticut State Community College (CT State) Quinebaug Valley will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with two free public performances and workshops at the Quinebaug Valley campuses in Danielson and Willimantic.
Grupo Boriken will perform on Thursday, September 17 from 6-8 p.m., at the Third Thursday Street Fest in Willimantic, on the stage next to Quinebaug Valley’s Willimantic Center at 729 Main Street. Grupo Boriken, led by director and "Cuatrista" Joe Díaz has been sharing Puerto Rican folk culture and music to delighted audiences for 35 years. In addition to Diaz, the group consists of six members: Edwin Rios, Antonio Rivera, Güiro Raul de León, Roberto Piñeiro and Pipo Milano.
Oswaldo Tirano will give a presentation, performance and workshop on Latin dance on Tuesday, October 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at CT State Quinebaug Valley’s main campus, 742 Upper Maple Street in Danielson. A native of Bogota, Colombia, Tirano has taught stylish & spicy Latin dance in Connecticut for over 25 years. He served National University and the National School of Dramatic Arts in Colombia as an entertaining instructor and barnstormer performer. Tirano has collaborated with Windham High School for the past three years in organizing the Hispanic Heritage Celebration Month. Currently, he teaches at The River Room and for the Windham Recreation Department.
