CT State Northwestern Presents Homelessness and Youth Discussion

February 04, 2026 - Susan Stiller - News Release
Campus: Northwestern
CT State Northwestern will present Homelessness and Youth: What You Need to Make a Difference on Thursday, February 12, 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. in the Founders Hall Auditorium, 4 Park Place, Winsted. The presentation will be led by Anne Giordano and Michelle Anderson of EdAdvance. The event is free and open to the public.

Giordano and Anderson will discuss McKinney Vento, a federal law traditionally for youth in grades K-12, which ensures immediate enrollment and educational stability for homeless children and youth. Recent increases in young adults experiencing homelessness while in college have raised concerns that have drawn attention toward extending support under the law. This event will provide information on how institutions, policies, and communities can address these challenges and help support all students, from kindergarten through college, achieve success.

EdAdvance is one of Connecticut's six Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs), serving western Connecticut. RESCs are responsible for providing educational and related services, as well as promoting the success of school districts and their communities. Anderson is the Director of Early Childhood & Family Programs at EdAdvance; Giordano is an early childhood specialist.
