CT State Asnuntuck and New England Tractor Trailer Training School Launch New CDL Workforce Training Program
Partnership creates a direct connection between the classroom and commercial driver’s license training
Connecticut State Community College (CT State) Asnuntuck is partnering with New England Tractor Trailer Training School (NETTTS) to launch a new commercial truck driving program to prepare students for in-demand careers in the transportation and logistics industry.
The Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Workforce Training program provides students with the training to pursue a CDL in approximately 10 weeks. Students receive classroom instruction, hands-on behind-the-wheel training, and job-readiness coaching during day or evening sessions designed to move them from the classroom to a commercial driver’s license and into the workforce. The second cohort is expected to begin in early 2027.
“At CT State Asnuntuck, we believe education should do more than prepare students for their first job—it should open the door to economic mobility, long-term career success and leadership,” said Joshua Moon-Johnson, Ed.D., campus president, Connecticut State Community College Asnuntuck, Manchester, and Middlesex. “Our partnership with New England Tractor Trailer Training School gives students the opportunity to learn by doing, gain industry-recognized skills and enter careers that can provide a living wage. We are proud to help students build not only the skills to drive our economy, but the confidence and leadership potential to grow into mentors, trainers and leaders within the transportation industry.”
According to Connecticut labor market projections, the state expects approximately 2,050 annual openings for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, with employment projected to grow from 16,870 workers in 2022 to 18,810 in 2032.
“For more than six decades, NETTTS has proudly called Somers, Connecticut home, and that commitment to our community has never wavered,” said Carl Stebbins, President, New England Tractor Trailer Training School (NETTTS). “Partnering with CT State Asnuntuck is a natural extension of that commitment – it allows us to reach students earlier, meet them where they are, and give them a direct, supported path to earning a CDL and getting behind the wheel. We look forward to continuing to serve our community, together with CT State Asnuntuck for many years to come.”
How to ApplyThose interested in learning more can contact NETTTS Representative, Don Cunningham, at (561) 412-8959 or . Seats are limited to 20 students across the two cohorts.
