New Optics Fabrication and Metrology Certificate Program Launches This Fall at CT State Norwalk
In response to the growing industry demand for skilled optics and metrology professionals, Connecticut State Community College Norwalk (CT State Norwalk) is excited to announce the launch of a new Optics Fabrication and Metrology noncredit certificate program beginning September 20.
Designed for both newcomers and current professionals in the field, this innovative program combines foundational optics theory with hands-on training and real-world applications. Students will be given the opportunity to gain practical skills needed to produce and maintain high-precision optical components critical to industries and sectors such as telecommunications, medical devices, aerospace, and defense.
Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesday from 6 to 8:30PM (Live, Remote, Online) and Saturdays from 9AM to 4:30PM (in-person, on campus) from September 20 through January 24.
“This program meets a real need in our local and national workforce,” said Fahad Usman, CT State Norwalk assistant professor of engineering technology. “We’re providing our students with job-ready skills that open doors to high-tech and high-demand roles in the optic and photonics industries.”
In preparation for the program launch, CT State Norwalk welcomed AdvanceCT, ASML, Southern Connecticut State University, and other industry and community partners for an exclusive preview of the facility on Norwalk’s campus; attendees had the opportunity to meet with faculty, tour the lab, view the equipment, and watch a live demonstration of optical fabrication techniques. The event served as a preview to the upcoming Open House on Wednesday, September 3 from 5:30 to 7PM which is open to all prospective and interested students and community members.
“We were incredibly excited to showcase the space with our partners and demonstrate the state-of-the-art tools and instruction that will be available to our students,” said Jon DeBenedictis, director of noncredit programs. “It’s an exciting time to get involved with optics, and we can’t wait to share more of this amazing program with our community.”
