CT State Northwestern Student Awarded Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

August 04, 2025 - Susan Stiller - News Release
Campus: Northwestern

CT State Northwestern is proud to announce student Dakota Lawson has been selected as a 2025 Oberndorf Scholar by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and has received a $1,500 scholarship toward the completion of his studies.

Lawson is a Liberal Arts and Sciences Associate of Applied Arts, and Cannabis Studies Certificate candidate, entering his last year of studies at Northwestern this fall. He is the Phi Theta Kappa New England Regional Vice President of Service, and the Northwestern Student Government Treasurer. He resides in Torrington.

Phi Theta Kappa recognizes the academic achievement of students at associate degree–granting colleges, helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarship helps Phi Theta Kappa members overcome unanticipated financial barriers that may exist and may be preventing the completion of their first college credential, associate degree, or certificate.

“We are very proud to congratulate Dakota for his achievements,” said CT State Northwestern President, Dr. Michael Rooke. “He has excelled in both the classroom and on campus; it is wonderful to see him achieve this award.”
