CT State Middlesex Premieres Connecticut Watershed Model Video at DEEP Headquarters
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) premiered the “Connecticut Watershed Model (CTWM) outreach video at the Gina McCarthy Auditorium, 79 Elm Street, Hartford on October 7. The 10-minute video, produced by Connecticut State Community College Middlesex’s Center for New Media (CNM) Productions, highlights an innovative new tool designed to help communities across the state protect and improve water quality.
“The video was a great project for my staff and Middlesex students to work on,” said Dan Nocera, CNM productions coordinator. “We got to film at several state parks, which is always fun, and we were able to use beautiful nature footage from our DEEP archives to finish off the piece.”

Over the past two years, the CNM Productions team collaborated closely with DEEP to produce and edit the video, which introduces the Watershed Model — a cutting-edge platform that enables cities, towns and municipalities to run simulations on their watershed areas. These simulations can project the impacts of development, land cover changes, climate factors, septic programs and green infrastructure on local water quality, helping planners make data-driven decisions and achieve long-term environmental goals.
During the premiere event, DEEP representatives Emma Coffey, Kathleen Knight and Kelly Streich spoke about the many water-quality improvement opportunities the model supports. They also presented awards to the CNM Productions team in recognition of their creative and technical contributions.
Staff members who worked on the production included Leandra Ciolkosz, Cindy Gertsl and Matthew Kraines, along with students Thomas Blackmore, Jimmy Burch, Fisher Harris, Gillian LeBlanc, Josey Pesteland Ryann Sweeney.
The CTWM video will be used by DEEP to educate municipalities, policymakers and the public on how watershed management decisions made today will shape Connecticut’s water quality future.
